About us

Poes School of Accelerated Math was founded by Olga Poes, an experienced mathematics educator with more than 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience. Olga holds two Master's degrees and completed all doctoral coursework (Ph.D. ABD) at the University of Illinois Chicago. She has taught at the university level and has worked extensively with elementary, middle, and high school students. In addition, she earned the Leaders of Learning certificate from Harvard University, reflecting her commitment to continuously improving her teaching through research-based educational practices.

Olga believes that every mathematically talented child deserves to be challenged. Her classes are designed for students who are eager to think deeply, solve complex problems, and work beyond their current grade level. She is passionate about helping gifted students develop not only strong computational skills but also logical reasoning, mathematical creativity, and confidence.

We specialize in live online small-group math classes for advanced students across the United States. Students are placed according to their current math level rather than their age or school grade, and many of our students are one to two years ahead academically. Our programs serve students enrolled in honors, gifted, and accelerated math tracks, as well as those preparing for PSAT 8/9, advanced placement tests, and middle school math competitions and Olympiads.

Our curriculum draws from the strengths of the American Common Core, Singapore Math, and Russian Math traditions, creating a rigorous program that emphasizes conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning rather than memorization alone.

Our philosophy is simple: math is not difficult when it is taught well. Complex ideas become accessible when they are introduced in a logical sequence, explained clearly, and reinforced through meaningful practice. We challenge students while providing the guidance they need to build lasting understanding and confidence.

At Poes School of Accelerated Math, we strive to create a learning environment where students enjoy being challenged, celebrate intellectual curiosity, and develop the skills needed for long-term success in mathematics and beyond.

What Is Accelerated Math?

Acceleration is an educational approach that allows students to learn mathematics at a faster pace than the traditional school curriculum, often progressing one or more grade levels ahead. Rather than repeating concepts they have already mastered, students are introduced to increasingly challenging material that matches their ability and readiness.

Our Accelerated Math program is designed for gifted and high-achieving students who demonstrate exceptional mathematical understanding, strong problem-solving skills, and advanced logical reasoning. These students typically grasp new concepts quickly, recognize patterns with ease, and make meaningful connections across mathematical topics.

The curriculum follows the Common Core State Standards while moving through the required concepts at an accelerated pace. Students build a deep conceptual understanding rather than simply memorizing procedures, preparing them for honors and advanced mathematics courses, standardized tests, and competitive math programs.

Students Who Thrive in Our Program

Our Accelerated Math program is designed for students who demonstrate both exceptional mathematical ability and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Successful students typically exhibit:

  • Exceptional problem-solving, logical, and abstract reasoning skills

  • Strong spatial reasoning and visualization abilities

  • A genuine passion for mathematics and intellectual challenge

  • The ability to learn new concepts quickly with minimal repetition

  • Self-motivation, perseverance, and a strong work ethic

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently

  • The ability to clearly explain mathematical thinking, both verbally and in writing

  • Academic maturity beyond their age or grade level

  • Curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to tackle challenging problems

  • A positive attitude toward learning and receiving constructive feedback

Students who possess these qualities typically excel in our fast-paced, discussion-based classes and enjoy learning alongside other highly motivated young mathematicians.
